Electron-positron pair production by photons in nonuniform strong fields.
A probability of electron-positron pair production by photons in strong nonuniform fields is derived by applying a model trajectory method in the frame of a semiclassical approach. In addition to the well known invariant field parameter chi, a new invariant parameter nu is introduced to characterize the nonuniformity of the field. For nu>>1, the obtained expression is reduced to the uniform-fie...
متن کاملDouble Pair Production by Ultra High Energy Cosmic Ray Photons
Using CompHEP package we’ve made the detailed estimate of the influence of double ee pair production (DPP) by photons on the propagation of ultra high energy electromagnetic (EM) cascade. We show that in the models in which cosmic ray photons energy reaches few×103 EeV refined DPP analysis may lead to substantial difference in predicted photon spectrum compared to previous rough estimates.
متن کاملHard Photons in W Pair Production at LEP 2
The properties of hard photon radiation in W pair production at LEP 2 are studied, with emphasis on the energy loss relevant to the W mass measurement. We use a combination of the exact 1-photon matrix element and leading logarithmic structure functions. Defining unobservable, observable and initial state photons in the phase space, it is shown that neither the one-photon matrix element nor the...
متن کاملCharged pion pair production by two photons from a chiral sum rule
The cross-section for a charged pion pair production by two photons is evaluated by using the low energy expression previously obtained from current algebra and PCAC which involves an integral over vector and axial-vector spectral functions. Data on the latter obtained from τ-decay as measured by the ALEPH collaboration is then inserted in the integral which is appropriately modified in order t...
متن کاملJet Production by Virtual Photons
The production of jets is studied in collisions of virtual photons, γp and γγ, specifically for applications at HERA and LEP2. Photon flux factors are convoluted with matrix elements involving either direct or resolved photons and, for the latter, with parton distributions of the photon. Special emphasis is put on the range of uncertainty in the modeling of the resolved component. The resulting...
